Physio jobs possible at new medical centre
11th March 2010

It is hoped that a new medical centre being built in Redditch town centre will lead to the creation of physiotherapy jobs and smoking cessation services.

The £350,000 project, being delivered by primary care investors Assura, will see a building above the town’s Lloyd’s pharmacy on William Street be converted for use as a medical facility.

The new centre aims to ease the pressure on the local hospital and treat some of the area’s less serious medical complaints at a location in the heart of the community.

Already planned for the site are an eye care service, minor surgical facilities and a dermatology centre. Assura, which already provides physiotherapy and stop smoking services in the Redditch and Bromsgrove area, is hopeful that permanent physiotherapy services can also be housed in the refurbished building.

“We are delighted that fit out works have now begun on what will be a fantastic new facility for the local community,” said Amanda Horley, Assura development manager.

“The existing building has the added advantages of already having disabled access and is located alongside complementary medical services such as an optician and a pharmacy.”

Local health professionals welcomed the extra investment in medical facilities for the area, praising the convenience of the site for the community.

“We are very excited to be able to offer our excellent clinical services from a new, dedicated medical centre,” commented Redditch GP, Dr Richard Burling.

Fitting out of the new medical centre is anticipated to be complete by late April, with staff expected to start work shortly afterwards.
