Fourteen organisations from the Welsh social care sector have been nominated for a series of prestigious awards dubbed the ‘Oscars of Social Care’ which are awarded tonight.
The Social Care Accolades, which are backed by a partnership including the Association of Directors of Social Services and the British Association of Social Workers, seek to recognise outstanding contributions to the training and development of employees.
The finalists are from 11 of the Welsh local authorities and also include two projects with national scope. Winners will collect their awards from Gwenda Thomas AM, Deputy Minister for Social Services during a ceremony held at Cardiff City Hall.
“The Accolades are a wonderful celebration of good practice, recognising groups for their excellence and improving services for users by learning from their success,” commented Mutale Merrill, Chair of the Care Council of Wales.
“We hope the awards will not only provide a public platform to celebrate and share best practice, but will also help attract more skilled people into the growing workforce,” added Mrs Merrill.
The Accolades are the culmination of the National Social Services Conference 2009, which focuses on the future of adult social care, children’s services and improving services for families, carers and the wider community. The conference is also a chance for those involved in the provision of social care to network and exchange ideas.
Speakers at this year’s high profile event have included Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan AM and Minister for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills Jane Hutt AM.
